The (discontinued) Miata NB OEM battery tray has two large dimples on the bottom that fit into matching dimples/depressions in the floor of the battery compartment. Vibrations are underrated in terms of consequences with the Miata - that one thing I have learned from ownership. Apparently the bolt is now too stripped to hold it in place so I will have to get a tap and die and re-thread it and add in a new bolt. I stopped the car and re-attached it but saw it was all wiggling around and that bolt that holds it into the trunk floor was popped out of the hole. Car blacked out for a second then I guess the terminal clamp fell back onto to it and the car resumed. I just had my battery terminal pop off in my trunk at 55 MPH on one of those rough areas of a canyon road. What I would like to know is how does that plastic tray stay fixed without moving around? I think I would feel better if it was some kind of bolt that held it in place but it doesn't look like that's how it works.

OTOH, the aftermarket replacement works as well, maybe better, than the OEM. If Beasley actually has these in stock, grab 'em before they're gone! Mazda discontinued this NB battery tray over a year ago, so the only OEM ones left are NOS or used.

I am having a new tray delivered maybe today, or a day or two after CHRISTmas, that I will keep in spare till my next battery swap, probably in near 5 more yrs. Like I said though, that extra 3/16" of width may have been the cause of the tray's crack, not sure, and even that O'Reilly one is 1/8" wider than the OEM, according to what Westco says about theirs, unless they are just being rounded UP. 4 Mos old now), and maybe his last CHRISTmas steak tomorrow morning, but hope not since he is still so spunky/healthy :-). Mostly our summer, go to the beach car, but not the last couple of beach vacation trips, because our little Jack Russell is now just too old to sit on my Wife's lap for near 5 hours (16 yr. And these Duralasts have served me well, although I keep a battery maintainer on it 24/7 due to its obvious lack of use>LOL. My 2000 Miata is a 2000 (Albeit with less than 44K original miles). Only thing, when I last went battery shopping, The fact that it had a lower CCA than the OEM was for me a deal breaker (Why would they do THAT?), more so than the Duralast not saying it's an AGM. Shoult>Yes, that is the one at the O'Reilly's URL I shared in my last post.

So having a good battery, tray and hold down plus the proper venting can be divided out over that time period and compared to the endless problems of the wrong products that might have been cheaper. The size and venting will be correct if you do that.īatteries out here tend to last an average of 5 years. Search some and you will find out exactly which battery replaces the OEM battery. There are a ton of posts about batteries on this site. Rosenthal also sells the tie down piece if yours is missing or messed up. The size of the batteries you have been buying at the autoparts store probably isn't. She is Asian though and the phrase don't wake the sleeping dragon applies.Īs for the size, the OEM plate will be the correct size. MMoondog is the sweetest woman I have ever met. MMoondog actually had to go into the branch of the PO that delivers to us and give them a what for. So far, UPS has never lost anything I ordered and always delivered on time. I live in a rural area outside Tucson, AZ. You can probably call them to specify how you want it shipped.Īs for me, my preference is UPS. They have the OEM battery tray for your Miata.
